Marion F. Jones, obituary
BELFAST — Marion Frances Jones, 94, formerly of Hope, went home to be with the Lord on Feb. 21, 2016, at Harbor Hill in Belfast. Born Feb. 2, 1922, she was the daughter of Martin and Mabel (Wentworth) Athearn and was a graduate of Camden High School, Class of 1939.
For 30 years, Marion was employed at the Knox Woolen Mill, where she made many friends.
A long-time member of the Chestnut Street Baptist Church in Camden, Marion was active in the mission circle. She was also a member of Hope Extension, more recently Midcoast Ladies Club, a member of the Camden Senior Citizens and a life member of the Hope Historical Society.
Family was most important to Marion and she loved spending special events and holidays with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be remembered for her smile and her sweet personality.
Hope was Marion's home town for 62 years until she sold her home in 2008 and moved to the Megunticook House in Camden. Several years ago, she moved to Belmont, due to illness, to live with her daughter.
She was predeceased by her husband, Walter Jones; her sister, Florence Athearn; her brother, Harold Athearn; her granddaughter, Stacey Bowden; and her son-in-law, Neil Jackson. Surviving is her son, Kenneth Jones and his wife, Ruth, of Lincolnville; her daughter, Carolyn Jackson of Belmont; her sister, Ava Jackson of Lincolnville; three granddaughters, Jennifer Mickey and her husband, Scott, of Rockland, Julie Gushee and her husband, Joel, of Appleton, and Janine Meservey and her husband, Cliff, of Hope; three grandsons, Anthony Bowden of Indian Rocks Beach, Fla., Vincent Jones of Dexter and Jason Jones of Northport; seven great-granddaughters, Brittany, Sierra and McKenzie Meservey, Ericka Shoudy, Krystine Smith, Melissa Bowden and Heather Letellier; four great-grandsons, Matthew Shoudy, Nicholas Jones, Nathaniel Johnson and Harrison Garcia; and her great great-grandchildren, Hannah Bowden, Mickaela Bowden, Madison Shoudy, Alistaire Smith and Mason Shoudy.
Calling hours will be held Monday, Feb. 29 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Long Funeral Home, 9 Mountain St. in Camden. A memorial service, followed by a reception, will be held Saturday, March 5 at 2 p.m. at Chestnut Street Baptist Church in Camden with the Rev. Adam Kohlstrom officiating. Spring burial will be held in LaSalle Cemetery in Searsmont.
