Man arrested after allegedly swinging knife at victim
STOCKTON SPRINGS — A Montville man was arrested after Waldo County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a complaint from the Rocky Ridge Motel July 5.
Steven Mathis, 28, has been charged with aggravated reckless conduct following the 3 a.m. incident.
Deputy David Wight and Corporal Darrin Moody responded to the scene, where the complainant stated that they had invited Mathis to visit them at the hotel, where they are staying.
During the visit, Mathis, who had allegedly been drinking throughout the day, became angry with the victim.
Mathis reportedly told the complainant to leave the room, and produced a knife when they failed to comply.
According to the victim Mathis swung the knife at them several times, though they managed to escape through the back door uninjured.
Mathis was located hiding in a shower in a different motel room, still in possession of the knife.
He was arrested and transported to the Waldo County Jail, where he is being held without bail.
Mathis has also been charged with violation of probation.
