Linwood Segwick, obituary
ROCKLAND — Linwood Payson “PaPa” Sedgwick Jr, 77, died Oct. 11, 2015, at his home, with his wife at his side, after a long battle with cancer.
Born in Camden on May 27, 1938, he was the son of Payson L. and Muriel Gallison Sedgwick. He lived in various places growing up, following his father's employment in woolen mills. Linwood began working in the woolen mills at an early age, at mills in Warren and Camden. Often during winter months, he worked in the woods and also in area fish processing factories.
He married Avis Hill in Portsmouth, N.H., on Nov. 11, 1959. The couple has made their home in Rockland since that time, in the same home where Linwood died.
He later worked several years as a truck driver with Feyler Fish.
Linwood was devoted to his family and grandchildren, attending their school functions and ball games whenever he could.
In addition to his parents, Linwood was predeceased by four sisters, Muriel, Albertress “Bo,” Florence and Laura; and a brother, Thaxter. He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Avis of Rockland; five children, Glenn S. Hill and his wife, Patricia, of Rockport, Maureen Glidden and her husband, Dave, of Biddeford, Linwood P. Segwick III of Rockland, Pamela J. Sedgwick and her husband, Patrick Lewis, of West Roxbury, Mass., and Timothy C. Sedgwick of Rockland; his mother-in-law, Emma P. Hill of Rockland; his sister-in-law, Roberta Sedgwick of Union; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Friends and relatives are invited to visit Tuesday, Oct. 20 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street in Rockland, where a funeral service will be held Wednesday, Oct. 21 at 2 p.m. The Rev. Robert Bell will officiate. Interment will follow in Achorn Cemetery on Old County Road in Rockland.
