Lawrence A. Wade, obituary
LINCOLNVILLE — Lawrence A. "Tink" Wade, 89, passed away on Feb. 18, 2016, at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor from complications of Parkinson's disease. Born in Rockland on Nov. 12, 1926, he was one of six children of Osborn H. and Sadie (Carver) Wade.
From 1944 to 1946, he served in the U.S. Navy as seaman first class aboard the U.S.S. Boxer (CV-21), a refueling vessel for aircraft.
Following his military discharge, Lawrence started a lifelong career as a truck driver. From the 1940s to the early 1970s, he hauled chickens, eggs and blueberries around Union and Lincolnville, sometimes traveling out of state including to New York City.
In the late 1970s, Lawrence went to work at Marriner's Paving in Rockport, working there until his retirement in the fall of 1992.
A stock car enthusiast, Lawrence enjoyed going to races at Unity and Wiscasset, and followed NASCAR racing on television. He often visited friends and was a regular visitor at Wayne Rankin's Garage in Lincolnville.
Lawrence was predeceased by his brothers, Norman, William and Ozzy Wade; his sister, Ruth Carver; and his twin sister, Louise Porter; two nephews, William Wade Jr. and Jeff Wade; and his brothers-in-law, Robert Bishop and Kenneth Milliken. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Kathleen "Cassie" Young Wade of Lincolnville; his son, Lawrence E. "Larry" Wade of Rockport; his daughters, Jean A. Wade of North Carolina and Tracy A. Kniesner and her husband, Brian, of Waldoboro; his grandson, Alex Winslow Wade of Portland; his sisters-in-law, Cora Milliken of Lincolnville and Phyllis Bishop of Belfast; several nieces and nephews from Maine, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania, including Travis Milliken of Lincolnville.
A graveside service, to be held in July in the Maplewood Cemetery in Lincolnville, will be announced.
