Knox County Sheriff’s deputies investigate Washington stabbing
WASHINGTON —An alleged assault involving a large hunting knife kept law enforcement on the lookout for a suspect on the move in a vehicle, and one person transported to the hospital, a tourniquet tied around his arm to stop the bleeding.
The altercation took place May 18, at approximately 11:34 a.m., on the Liberty Road in Washington.
According to a news release from the Knox County Sheriff's Office:“It was reported that Matthew Dean, of Liberty, had stabbed a person from Palermo. Matthew Dean had shown up to the address and caused over $2,000 worth of damage to a vehicle in the driveway by stabbing the driver’s side of the vehicle four times with a large hunting knife and broke out the rear window.”
The vehicle’s owner, and resident of the Liberty Road address, along with a friend, “gave foot-chase to Dean, who they are familiar with,” the release said. “One male caught up to Dean and grabbed him. A struggle ensued and that male was slashed/stabbed several times in the left arm by Matthew Dean. Dean fled the scene as the property owner rendered aid to his friend and applied a makeshift tourniquet to his arm.”
Other local law enforcement agencies were also notified and to be on the lookout for Mr. Dean.
Waldoboro Ambulance and Union Rescue responded and EMS personnel applied another tourniquet.
“The victim was transported to a medical center with non-life threatening injuries,” the release said.
Dean was subsequently located and taken into custody by the Togus Police Department, the release said.
An investigation of the incident remains ongoing.
