Knox County grand jury indictments: Three charged with multiple Midcoast burglaries
ROCKLAND — A Knox County grand jury handed down the following indictments Feb. 4, which represented 14 defendants, all from Maine, and 66 counts. Three of the defendants are inmates at the Maine State Prison. An indictment does not imply guilt.
Taylor C. Shultz, 35, of Biddeford, Charles J. Warner, II, 37, of Portland, and Charles York, 39, of Portland, were each indicted for four counts of unauthorized taking, four counts of burglary and four counts of criminal mischief stemming from multiple business burglaries. They are accused of stealing more than $10,000 worth of property from J.C. Penney’s Department Store in Rockland, more than $10,000 of merchandise from Townline Video Plus in Warren, stealing over $1,000 from Flagship Cinemas in Thomaston and more than $1,000 from Lincoln’s Country Store in Warren. According to a press release from the Maine State Police, the total value of the items stolen and damages to the more than 25 businesses burglarized across Maine exceeded $200,000.
Todd Avery, 40, of Warren, negotiating a worthless instrument, with two checks for $1,266.
Kurtis Rome- Bertrand, 21, of Rockland, one count of theft by unauthorized taking or transfer for allegedly stealing lottery tickets or money valued at more than $1,000 from Circle K in Rockport and/or the Maine State Lottery. Bertrand is also charged with violation of condition of release.
Joseph R. Dinapoli, 27, of Cushing, two counts of driving to endanger with criminal negligence and criminal speed for allegedly speeding 30 miles over the speed limit.
Suzanne M. Gardner, 49, of Rockland, failure to report to jail after being convicted of operating after revocation and violation of condition of release.
Ralene Grant, 30, of Rockland, theft by unauthorized taking or transfer for allegedly stealing tax refund money valued at $278.
Anthony M. Griffin, 22, Maine State Prison, assault on a corrections officer.
Anthony Kaler, 43, of South Thomaston, was indicted for attempted gross sexual assault, aggravated criminal mischief, aggravated assault, assault, criminal trespass, refusing to submit to arrest, criminal threatening and terrorizing. In January, Kaler was arrested by Rockland police for sexually and physically assaulting a woman in her home, causing multiple injuries to the victim and damages to her home. When the victim reported the alleged sexual assault to police, Kaler had also been charged earlier the same day with aggravated criminal mischief for causing damage to another person’s home exceeding $2,000 in value and assaulting a Thomaston Police officer.
Robert A. Rein, 57, of Rockland, violation of sex offender registry and violation of condition of release.
Paul Joseph Schlosser, 30, Maine State Prison, assault on a corrections officer.
Teresa L. Thomas, 45, of Augusta, failure to report to jail after being convicted of felony theft.
Michael Steven Turner, 28, Maine State Prison, two counts of assault on a corrections officer; aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury to a corrections officer.
