Joseph Henry Walsh, obituary
SOUTH THOMASTON — Joseph Henry Walsh, 51, passed away on June 6, 2025, with his wife of 25 years, Charlene Walsh, by his side.
Joe was born in Rockland and attended local area schools. He was known for his love of the sea and made a career out of fishing. Lobstering, scalloping, urchin, elver, ice fishing, halibut, and his most recent passion, tuna fishing, kept him in the captain chair of the “Fishin’ Off” or the “Lyra” for much of his time. A favorite quote he shared was “It’s called fishin’ not catchin’…” He enjoyed countless hours of hunting, New England sports, farming, cribbage/cards, family cookouts, and conversations with friends retelling the stories of his adventures in life. An animal lover at heart, his bulldogs, Stella and Olive often accompanied him. He loved sharing his knowledge gained through his lifelong experiences and was known for his helpfulness and generosity.
Joe is survived by his wife, Charlene Walsh; his mother, Bea Thomas; his brother, Ryan Mahonen; and his sister, Kelsey Everett. His children and their partners include, Cricket Walsh and Patrick Mess, Courtney Walsh and Bryce Fell, Courtney Parlin and Chris Johnson, Benjamin and Alison Parlin. Joe adored his grandchildren, Aydan Fall, Reign Fall, Graeson Parlin, and Lyra Parlin. Included with immediate family are several in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
He was predeceased by family members Paul Mahonen Sr., and Paul Mahonen Jr.
Loved by so many and touched by Joe’s wisdoms “Go big, or go home” will resonate with us all.
