Fryeburg heroin arrests
FRYEBURG — The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency arrested two Sweden, Maine residents late Friday night for transporting heroin into Maine from Massachusetts to be resold throughout Western Maine.
Arrested were;
Derrek Verrill (26) for Aggravated Trafficking in Schedule W Drugs (Heroin) Class A and Illegal Importation of Schedule W Drugs (Heroin) Class C.
Gayle Gilmore (18) for Aggravated Trafficking in Schedule W Drugs (Heroin) Class A and Illegal Importation of Schedule W Drugs (Heroin) Class C.
For the past month, agents from the MDEA Western District Task Force, the Oxford County Sheriff's Office, and Fryeburg Police conducted an investigation into the illegal distribution of heroin by Verrill and Gilmore. The investigation revealed the two were traveling to Massachusetts weekly to purchase heroin then return to Maine where they sold it to local users.
On April 15 at approximately 11:30 p.m., Verrill, and Gilmore were arrested without incident after they were stopped in their Toyota Corolla on the West Fryeburg Road in Fryeburg. Agents had received information that the two were returning from Massachusetts with a large amount of heroin. A search warrant for the two and the Toyota Corolla was obtained in anticipation of it's' return to Maine.
A search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of approximately 60 grams (600 doses) of heroin with an approximate street value of $10,000.
Verrill and Gilmore were transported to the Oxford County Jail where bail was set for Verrill at $15,000 cash. Gilmore's bail was set at $5,000 cash.
The investigation is continuing and additional arrests are expected.
Also assisting in the traffic stop and arrest was the Maine State Police.
