Freedom crash kills Manchester woman, deputies continue to investigate
FREEDOM — The investigation continues into a fatal two-vehicle motor vehicle crash in Freedom that killed a Manchester woman, Thursday, Sept. 17, 2020.
The crash occurred at the intersection of North Palermo Road, Greeley Road, and Albion Road. The intersection is also known as Hutchins Corner.
Dawna Kent, of Manchester, was driving a 2009 Ford Focus in a north-westerly direction on Greeley Road toward the intersection of North Palermo Road and Albion Road. According to the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office, Kent allegedly failed to stop at the stop sign at the end of Greeley Road where another vehicle traveling north-easterly on North Palermo Road had the right of way.
As that second vehicle, a 2011 Ford F350, owned by Cianbro, of Pittsfield, and operated by Ruben Schofield Sr, 45, of Thorndike, crossed onto North Palermo Road it allegedly drove into the path of Kent’s vehicle.
Deputies say the front end of Schofield’s vehicle struck Kent’s vehicle at the driver’s side.
Kent was killed as a result of the crash, according to deputies. Her passenger, Michael Curran, 44, of Fairfield, was transported by Delta Ambulance to Inland Hospital, in Waterville, with what is believed non-life-threatening injuries, said deputies.
Schofield was treated and released with what is believed to be minor injuries, said deputies.
The Crash remains under investigation.
