Frank J. Semancik, obituary
SOUTH CAROLINA — Frank J. Semancik, 87, passed away, Tuesday, April 29, 2025 in Charleston, South Carolina. He was born in 1937 in Cleveland, the son of Ann Zales and Frank P. Semancik. He was educated at all Catholic Schools, graduating from John Carroll University in 1959.
Frank married Virginia Cobb in 1963. He served in the US Army attaining the rank of Captain. He began his business career as a trainee for Crawford & Company an International Risk Management Company in 1959. In 1992 he was named COO of that Atlanta based firm. He also served as CEO of Lindsey-Cunningham and CEO of Arbitration Forum.
In 1990, Frank attended Harvard University Business School and in 2004 he received a Master’s Degree in Pastoral Studies from Loyola University in New Orleans.
On June 6, 2004, Frank was ordained a ‘Permanent Deacon’ in the Catholic Church at the Cathedral of The Immaculate Conception in Portland, Maine. Shortly thereafter he was named by Bishop Richard Malone as the First Executive Director of the newly created Catholic Foundation of Maine.
Frank was active in Ministry throughout the Diocese of Maine. He served at St. Charles in Brunswick, Maine and at St Brendan the Navigator Parish in Camden, Maine.
Frank is predeceased by his wife, Virginia.
He is survived by sons Frank, Michael, and Christopher. Also survived by sister Joyce Hale and Brother James Semancik. He leaves behind his grandsons, Nikolai, Alexander, and Jackson Cash Semancik.
His lifelong mottos were, ‘One person can make a difference,’ ‘Family is forever,’ ‘Live your life in joy, peace and love’ And “GO BROWNS!”
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at 11 a.m., at St. Bernards Catholic Church, 150 Broadway, Rockland; burial will follow at Sea View Cemetery in Rockport.
