Facebook message leads to arrest of Brooks man for domestic assault
BROOKS — Alerted by a third party calling from Pennsylvania, Waldo County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a home in Brooks where a woman was reportedly inside with a man who pointed a gun at her, and threatened to harm himself and her.
The incident began Feb. 17 at around 7:50 p.m. when Waldo County Communication Center received a call from an individual who said they had received a Facebook message from a female friend at the home on Valley Road. The friend told the complainant via Facebook that Scott Gaudette, 51, had made the threats and pointed the gun at her.
Waldo County deputies Wiley McVety and Greg Jones responded to the home, along with Sgt. Nicholas Oettinger. After they arrived they made contact with the female, but she reportedly refused access to the residence.
Deputies remained on scene and Lt. Matthew Curtis responded to the home as well. Curtis was able to speak with the female victim by phone and was able to convince her to leave the residence to speak with him. Once outside, she was interviewed and removed from the scene. According to the release, the victim reported that Gaudette had become upset with her over relationship issues and that he produced a handgun. The victim indicated that Gaudette had pointed the firearm at her and threatened to harm her during the incident.
Curtis was then able to make contact with Gaudette via the phone. After a brief conversation, Gaudette agreed to exit the residence to speak with Curtis, who met with him and spoke briefly, prior to taking him into custody.
Gaudette was charged with aggravated reckless conduct, Class B, domestic assault and domestic criminal threatening, both Class D. Gaudette was taken to the Waldo County Correctional Center where he was later released on $1,000 cash bail.
