CMP restores electricity to 90 percent of customers who lost power in Dec. 18 storm
As of this evening, Dec. 21, Central Maine Power crewshave restored power to nearly 90% of iAd customers. A total of 1,500 line and tree crews spent the day working in brisk weather conditions across Maine, redeploying to regions hardest hit as work concludes in other areas.
The goal, said CMP, is to restore power to the vast majority of customers by Saturday night.
“As always, safety continues to be a top priority as we work to restore our remaining customers,” said CMP. “ There have already been instances of vehicle accidents involving our crews who are working roadside, and we cannot emphasize enough how important it is to slow down and to provide them with plenty of room when passing to ensure there are no accidents or injuries.”
As of 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, 379,000 of 435,000 customers impacted by Monday’s storm have had their power restored.
CMP said 1,500 crews redeployed to areas hardest hit like Belgrade, Fairfield, and Manchester as work finishes in other areas. CMP expects to restore power to the vast majority of customers by Saturday evening.
Today alone, Maine businesses like Riverside Quik Stop, Flagstaff General Store, Bishop’s, Al’s Pizza, 100 Mountain Market, and Amato’s produced 5,600 lunches for crews and support staff. Other restaurants and organizations like the T&B Outback Tavern in Skowhegan, Governor’s Restaurant in Waterville, Calumet Club in Augusta, and the American Legion in Farmington have opened their doors and offered crews hundreds of warm meals, as well.
