Chase ends with South Thomaston crash
SOUTH THOMASTON — Knox County Sheriff’s Deputy John Hansen was parked and running radar in the School Zone of Guilford Butler School, South Thomaston, when a white 2005 Chevrolet Silverado headed north on Route 73, past the school at a speed allegedly above the limit, according to a news release from the sheriff’s department.
Hansen attempted to stop the vehicle and the truck sped up and refused to stop, the sheriff’s office said.
Hansen pursued the truck on Route 73 and onto the Dublin Road, South Thomaston. The truck failed to negotiate the curve by Snow Hill Lane and left the roadway five times. The truck ran over bushes, rocks and a small building believed to be a well pump house before entering the roadway, crossing into the other ditch and then again leaving the roadway on the south side of Dublin road.
The truck rolled onto it's side and came to a rest.
The driver, Brandon Demmons, 21, of Union, and a passenger were treated and released, at the scene, by South Thomaston Rescue.
Demmons was arrested for driving to endanger and attempting to elude a law enforcement officer. He was transported to the Knox County Jail where he was admitted and bailed. The truck, valued at approximately $9,000, is believed to be totaled, police said.
