Cause of Lincolnville house fire remains under investigation
LINCOLNVILLE — Approximately 25 firefighters from Lincolnville, Camden and Northport worked quickly Saturday night, Jan. 20, to extinguish a fire that was ravaging a small home on Lanning Lane, which is just off the Beach Road (Route 173) in Lincolnville. In the end, the structure remained standing, with walls and a roof, but the interior had been gutted.
The house, approximately 20-feet by 30-feet in size, was unoccupied at the time, although it had been winterized and power was on. The house had been occupied until just before Christmas.
“We have an idea of where it started,” said Lincolnville Fire Chief Steve Gibbons, on Jan. 24. “But we are trying to determine the cause.”
The Maine Fire Marshal’s Office is assisting Lincolnville with the ongoing investigation, he said.
Firefighters arrived at 7 p.m. and cleared the scene at approximately 10:30 p.m.
They set up a portable water tank on the ground, and they began a tanker shuttle to refill it as needed. Temperatures were in the uppers 20s that night.
There were 13 Lincolnville firefighters at the scene, along with 8 to 10 from Camden and 4 to 5 from Northport, said Gibbons.
“It was a good response,” he said.
Assistant Fire Chief A.J. Weed was in command throughout the incident, said Gibbons.
“A.J. was in charge and he did a good job,” said Gibbons.
