Belfast woman charged with operating after suspension after crashing dump truck in Prospect

PROSPECT — A Belfast woman who was taken to the hospital with minor injuries after she crashed a 1998 Freightliner dump truck Tuesday afternoon was later issued a summons when it was learned her driver’s license was under suspension.
Waldo County Sheriff Jeff Trafton, in a press release, said that 33-year-old Elisabeth Bormet was driving the dump truck westbound on Fort Knox Road in Prospect when she left the roadway. The truck crossed several driveways after going off the road, and came to rest in a field.
The accident was called in to Waldo County Dispatch Center around 12:49 p.m. on Sept. 8. Prospect Fire Department and Stockton Springs Ambulance service responded along with the Sheriff’s Department.
Deputy Darrin Moody responded to the crash, where Bormet claimed her thumb became entangled in the steering wheel cover, causing her to lose control of the truck.
Bormet was transported to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor with minor injuries, according to Trafton.
The truck was towed from the scene with significant front end damage, and Bormet was summonsed for operating after suspension, a class E offense, for allegedly driving with a suspended driver’s license.
