Barbara Smith Tosco, recently of Belfast, passed away Monday June 19, 2017. Barbara was born September 15, 1940 to Henry and Agnes McLaurin Smith.  She attended Central High School. She married James Guy and they had two daughters, Rhonda who passed away in  2014 at age 50, and Lisa Gail Guy, who lives in Belfast. 

Barbara spent most of her life taking care of her daughters who were both born with special needs. One Mother's Day, she was named Mother of the Year in the newspaper for her work with the programs available for people with special needs and for the care she gave her own two daughters.

After her first marriage ended, Barbara married William (Bill) Tosco and we were all saddened when he died of cancer several months later.

In addition to her daughter Lisa, Barbara is survived by her sister Jean Joy, with whom she had lived since coming to Maine; her brother Don Smith and wife Frances, of Fayetteville N.C.; her sister-in-law Barbara Smith, of Silsbee, Texas; and several nieces and nephews in Maine, North Carolina and  Texas.

There will be no services for Barbara at this time.  Later this year, her ashes will be taken to North Carolina to be buried with her husband. 

The family wishes to thank the people at Waldo County General Hospital for the care they gave Barbara and the people in CCU in Portland for their care.  Thanks for the many prayers and kind expressions of sympathy you all have shared.
