BELFAST —  Come Boating! Belfast’s Community Boating Organization and the Belfast Free Library are teaming up once again to offer the Winter Adventure Series. This year the series of three evening programs about adventures on the water will be offered in person in the Abbott Room of the Belfast Free Library with a Zoom option.

The first program, on Tuesday, January 16, at 6:30 p.m., will feature a presentation by David Conover about ArcticEarth Expeditions, a charter boat company that travels to the Arctic. To register for the Zoom link to this program please go to belfastlibrary.org/events/ and find the listing.

In 2021, Conover, the executive producer of Compass Light Productions in Camden, launched ArcticEarth Expeditions. The goal is to give scientists from around the world the opportunity to study the effects of climate change in the “new Arctic” onboard the 56 foot sailboat ArcticEarth.

Recently, the focus has been to deepen engagement and access to Baffin Bay and the Labrador Sea, plus the southern gateway that is the Gulf of Maine. In this presentation, Conover will share research findings including amazing photos and film clips of their journeys.

The Winter Adventure Series continues Tuesday, February 20 with a presentation by Zoe Couacaud titled, “From the Chesapeake Bay to the Bahamas and Back: How a family of novice sailors learned to navigate their first oceanic journey during a global pandemic.” On Tuesday, March 26, Dan Miller, the founder of Belmont Boatworks, will share some of their innovative projects.
