WALDOBORO — On December 1, the postponed “Last Monday of the Month Writing Challenge” took place at Medomak Valley High School, in Waldoboro.

The Writing Club’s second foray into the monthly writing contest was sponsored by Maine Antique Digest. The writing prompt was gratitude with a focus on Edward Hick’s The Peaceable Kingdom.

The winners were: 1st place, $50, Rioux (Rio) Meinersmann for her poem Black Within; 2nd place, $30, Kylie Blake’s nonfiction reflection My Peaceable Kingdom; and Honorable Mention, $20, Teagan Aiken for Eden.

“Thanks to Susan Jones, Morgan Murray, and Heather Webster for judging,” said Samuel Pennington. “Please encourage students to write and participate.”

The next challenge is scheduled for January 22 with a focus on “Returning Light” and/or “New Beginnings.”
