Windjammers sail, Mustangs ride, Panther, Lions struggle, Golf season is here

The high school golf season is underway with the first two matches for most teams in the book. 

Camden Hills plays at the Samoset Golf Club while Medomak and Oceanside play at Rockland Golf Club. Belfast at Northport and Mount View at Brooks Golf Course.

Medomak Valley
Mount View 8, Medomak Valley 1… In the second match played Monday at Rockland Golf Club the Mustangs overpowered the Panthers winning with a team score of 187 to 219 for Medomak. 

Individual results with Medomak golfers listed first, were; Adam Wilcox 52, Ross DeLorenzo 39; Josh Goldrup 50; Austin Higgins 38; Brent Stewart 56 (won 1 up), Joey Danna 56; Nathan Emerson 61 (lost 3 down), Cassidy Gerrish 61; Leighton Winslow 68, Westley Turner 61; and Josh Swan 75, Kasey Roberts 62.

Higgins was the medalist with a nine-hole 2-over par 38 for Mount View.

On August 28 the Panthers played Maine Central Institute at JW Parks hanging the Medomak team a 9-0 loss. 

MCI shot a team 155 on the par 35 course while Medomak struggled with a 221.

Individual results with Medomak Valley players listed first, were; Adam Wilcox 47, Eric Dugas 36; Josh Goldrup 46, Carter Pearl 35; Brent Stewart 60,  Nate Tilton 41; Nathan Emerson 68, Seth Mason 53; Leighton Winslow 75, Avery Gosselin 58; and Mavrick Young 94, Kurt LaRochelle 43.

MCI’s Pearl was the medalist with a par 35 nine-hole total. 

Camden Hills
Camden Hills 6.5, Cony 2.5… The Windjammers goes to 2-0 on the season with a four-golfer low score nine-hole total 172 - 191 to defeat Cony High School of Augusta Monday, Aug. 31, at the Samoset Golf Club.

For the second time in as many matches, Camden Hills’ Cole Anderson was the Medalist with a nine-hole low of 34.

Individual results with the Camden Hills players listed first are; Cole Anderson 34, Justin Rodrique 45; Julian Starbird 39, Jake Whitley 48; Braden Fisher 50, Tyler Dustie 51; Connor O’Dwyer 52, Michael Boivin 55; Connor Russell 49, Corbin Dustie 47; and Theo Penny 76, Brandon Tartiff 60.

August 28
Camden Hills 175, Lawrence 231… Camden Hills traveled to Clinton to take on host Lawrence of Fairfield in their season opener bringing home a 9-0 win. 

Cole Anderson was the medalist for the day with a nine-hole low of 37.

Belfast
Waterville 189, Belfast 210… The Lions have gotten off to a slow start falling Monday to Waterville after losing their opener to Oceanside Friday, Aug. 28.

Belfast’s Alex Fritz was the medalist with a nine-hole low of 41 on the course at Northport Golf Club.
