WCGH Family Medicine, Diabetes Services to host open house in new space

BELFAST — To celebrate the relocation of its Family Medicine and Diabetes Services practices, Waldo County General Hospital will hold an open house for patients and community members Wednesday, Feb. 14, from 2 to 6 p.m., at the newly renovated offices on the second floor of the Biscone Medical Building, located at 119 Northport Ave., in Belfast.

The moves are part of the hospital’s ongoing investment in expanding access to care in Waldo County. Moving Family Medicine and Diabetes Services into the Biscone Building, which also houses Waldo’s Primary and Walk-in Care practice, brings all of the hospital’s primary care offices under one roof and provides additional space for the diabetes practice to care for more patients.

“By bringing these practices together in the same building, we’re making it easier for patients to navigate our campus and receive the care they need,” said Dawn Place, senior director of practice operations for the hospital, in a news release.

The new space includes 14 patient exam rooms, nearly tripling the number of rooms available in the previous Family Medicine office.

The space also includes a behavioral health office, which allows the service to be more fully integrated into the practice, as well as a lab services area where patients can have labs drawn or receive vaccines on site without having to schedule an appointment.

Diabetes Services, which offers complete diabetes education, targeted nutrition counseling and intensive medication management, now shares the space with Family Medicine and has access to additional exam rooms as well. According to Place, sharing space with the primary care practices makes it easier for patients who need to visit both practices to schedule back-to-back appointments.

“It’s more convenient for patients and provides more opportunity for care coordination,” said Place.

Patients and community members are invited to drop by the Feb. 14 open house to meet providers and staff, take a tour of the space and enjoy light refreshments.

All Family Medicine providers are currently taking new patients. For more information, or to schedule an appointment, please call the practice at 505-4970 or visit wcgh.org.
