Vinalhaven man accused of assaulting woman

    VINALHAVEN — A Vinalhaven man was arrested by the Knox County Sheriff’s Office March 7 for allegedly assaulting a woman.

    Daniel Ganoza, 24, was charged by police with domestic violence aggravated assault and a misdemeanor charge of obstructing the report of a crime. He was transported to the Knox County Jail after his arrest.

    Ganoza made his initial court appearance in Knox County court March 8 before Judge Sarah Gilbert. His bail was set at $5,000 cash.

    According to the affidavit filed in court by the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, Ganoza allegedly threw the victim around inside a home and she hit her head several times but did not lose consciousness. Police said he also he put his forearm and bicep around her throat.

    Photographs were taken of the woman’s injuries of a black eye and two bruised knees, according to the affidavit.

    Ganoza will be on supervised release after he posts bail and must not have any contact with the victim and agree to the taking his medications as prescribed.

    He will appear in court again on May 2 for a dispositional conference.
