outh School extends its heartfelt gratitude to the Penobscot Bay YMCA and the community for their overwhelming support of the recent donation drive benefiting the Comfort Closet. Thanks to the generosity and compassion of donors, the Comfort Closet is now well-stocked with essential toiletries and other necessities, ensuring that students in need have access to vital resources.

During the drive, the YMCA received an incredible response from individuals, businesses, and organizations throughout the community. Donations ranged from toothbrushes and toothpaste to shampoo, conditioner, soap, deodorant, toilet paper, and more. The outpouring of support reflects the community's dedication to supporting the well-being of our youth and creating an inclusive learning environment for all students.

“We are immensely grateful to the Pen Bay YMCA and the entire community for their generosity and support," said Bethany Browne, LCSW, social worker at South School. "The success of this donation drive is a testament to the power of community collaboration and demonstrates the profound impact that can be achieved when we come together to support those in need.”

The Comfort Closet plays a vital role in meeting the needs of students who may otherwise go without basic hygiene items. By providing access to these essentials in a discreet and confidential manner, the initiative helps to remove barriers to education and promotes a supportive learning environment for all students.

“The local YMCA’s dedication to the well-being of our students is truly commendable," said South School’s Principal Hillary Arroyo. "Their partnership and support have made a significant difference in the lives of our students, ensuring that they have the resources they need to thrive.”

Everyone at South School extends their sincere appreciation to all those who contributed to the success of the donation drive. This generosity has made a lasting impact on the lives of students in need, and the staff is deeply grateful for the support.
