CAMDEN — The Camden–Rockport Middle School girls hosted the Oceanside White seventh grade girls Monday afternoon to start the large school seventh grade Busline League basketball season.
After a sold comeback effort in the fourth quarter, the Schooners handed the Mariners a tough 41-33 loss.
Camden-Rockport led the whole way in this one, taking a 12-9 first quarter lead and after holding the Mariners to two points in the second quarter took a 26-11 advantage into the half.
The third quarter saw the Mariners outscore the Schooners 8-7 and 14-8 in the final quarter only to fall short as time ran out 41-33.
Audrey Bowman led the Schooners with 18 points including 2-of-3 from the foul line. Kaylyn Krul added nine points, Emie Wood and Logan Craney six each, and Kriston Whitney two. The Schooners went 3-of-7 from the foul line.
For Oceanside, Hannah Benner led all scorers with 22 points, Chloe Simmons added four, Lindsey Brooks three, and Savannah Senay chipped in two. The Mariners were 3-of-11 from the foul line.
A ton of turnovers from both teams for traveling kept the pace of the game from helping either team gain too much of an advantage. While Camden-Rockport dominated the first half, Oceanside came back with a strong second half that has to having them feeling better about their game.
Camden-Rockport will travel to Boothbay Wednesday, Nov. 19 for its next match up, while Oceanside White will host Oceanside Blue at Thomaston Grammar School the same day.
