OWLS HEAD — The Owls Head Transportation Museum is launching a Spring education series beginning February 10, which will bring a new dimension to their collection of rare automobiles and aircraft.

For the first time ever, OHTM will be lifting the hoods on all the historic vehicles in the collection, giving the public a rare, up-close look at their innerworkings.

This brand new education series will be launching February 10, and museum staff will share the amazing stories behind six historic automobiles and two vintage aircraft.

The Open Hood events are accompanied by unique offerings for all ages: an adult education lecture series as well as a STEM Saturday Activity for young learners.

The first Open Hood day of 2024 will be on Saturday, Feb. 10, from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m., and a robotics-themed STEM activity will be offered throughout the day.

At 1 p.m., listen to a lecture on the origins and travels of one of the museum’s most celebrated collection pieces, Alice Longfellow’s 1913 Rolls Royce Silver Ghost. Beginning in the summer of 1913, recently discovered documents and research have revealed an epic journey of adventure, discovery, and war. Toby Stinson will lead a discussion on how Alice Longfellow and her Rolls Royce were caught in the middle of a changing world- and survived.

Throughout the day the following automobiles and aircraft will be highlighted, with staff on hand to provide background and answer questions:

Automobiles:

1905 Panhard et Lavassor
1906 Autocar Touring Car
1957 Ford Thunderbird
1942 Ford GPW WWII "Jeep"
