CAMDEN — Emmy nominated Maine filmmaker Daniel Lambert will present his film Maine at Gettysburg on Saturday, April 27, at 4 p.m., for the last in the Historical Society’s Winter Speaker Series in partnership with the Camden Public Library. The talk and 30 minute film will air in the library’s Picker Room followed by Q and A. Please note that this is a change in day and time from the library’s usual schedule.

Fifteen units of Maine soldiers – infantry, artillery, and cavalry – were all part of the Union army at Gettysburg. Their contributions were heroic and vital. What they did when they were called upon helped determine the battle and, ultimately, the Civil War. Wherever the action occurred at that sprawling battlefield, Maine men were in the thick of it. From Devil’s Den to Little Round Top, the Peach Orchard to the Wheat Field, from Steven’s Knoll to Cemetery Ridge, Maine men fought for the Union. Many sacrificed their lives for the idea that the United States of America was worth saving.

This film, produced by Lambert, examines the roles of the Maine men who helped to save the nation. The film features footage captured at the Gettysburg National Battlefield over the course of two years and offers Civil War Reenactment footage captured at events at the Norlands Living History Center in Livermore, Maine and at the Daniel Lady Farm in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.

Daniel Lambert has produced two previous films on Maine in the Civil War Sixteenth Maine at Gettysburg (2012), and Forlorn Hope (2019) about the ill-fated charge of the 1st Maine Heavy Artillery Regiment at the 1864 Battle of Petersburg.

To add local interest to his talk, Lambert has invited David Sulin, a local Civil War history expert to answer questions pertaining to local Midcoast involvement in the Civil War.

“In the spirit of shared community events and educational goals for the Midcoast community, the Camden-Rockport Historical Society is most appreciative of the library’s generous cooperation with our Winter Speaker Series, providing not only space but A-V technical support, staff liaison for community events and additional media advertising,” said CRHS, in a news release.
