Letter to the editor: We will miss Jim McBrian’s presence

Participation in the life of your community is a notable goal for all. The oft-used saying "It takes a Village to raise a child" is a philosophy Jim McBrian embraced. Retired to Appleton from away, he decided to serve on the Five Town CSD School Board. He didn't have children in our schools or have an agenda to change things. He wanted to represent his town.

Jim was an active participant on the board from day one. He had no problem asking questions and was respectful to all who might disagree with his opinions. He was always able to put the needs of the whole district in perspective with the needs of Appleton.

He enjoyed working on the Finance Committee and personnel negotiations. This past year, he also began work on the Region 8 Board of Directors (Midcoast School of Technology).

Always wanting to make sure he was involved and up-to-date on what was going on, I'd receive emails from him when he was away to make sure he didn't get behind on the board's work.

Hearing of Jim’s passing last week left us shocked as most sudden deaths do. We will miss his fiscal savvy, his sense of fairness and his humor. Most of all we will miss his presence.

I will leave this the same way he signed off on his last email to me from Spain.... Adios.
