ROCKPORT — Nancy Leonard intends to unveil the spring and summer clothing lines she recently acquired from a New York trade show around Valentine’s Day. In doing so, she’ll also be showcasing her newly renovated shop in Camden.

“I want to be a part of the foot traffic,” Leonard said, about her decision to move to 21 Elm Street after many years at 56 Commercial Street in Rockport.

The new location is at the corner of Washington and Elm streets, across the street from the Camden Opera House.

According to Leonard, the current Rockport location, on Route 1 just past the Camden town line, formerly housed an auto maintenance garage, complete with roll-up doors and a grease pit.

Leonard’s son, Casey Leonard of Village Cabinet and Remodeling, renovated the shop, and subsequently won an award for his work.

Casey is currently renovating the Elm Street site with new flooring and other projects necessary to keep the same atmosphere as the Rockport shop.

Leonard has been in the business of selling fine women’s clothing, jewelry, and accessories for 12 years on her own, and another 12 years with her sister-in-law. She carries clothing lines that include Planet, Eileen Fisher, Sympli, Gretchen Scott Designs, Gerties and more.

Leonard’s daughter helps in the store. Her 13-year-old granddaughter accompanied Leonard to this past weekend’s New York trade show, a trip the granddaughter has enjoyed since the age of 10.

Along with repeat customers, Leonard also has an employee who has worked with her for 20 years.
