Krul named to All-State team; first Windjammer to make list since 2011

ROCKPORT — For the first time since 2011, a boys soccer player from Camden Hills Regional High School has been chosen to the Eastern Maine All-State team.

In 2009, Jimmy Weferling was selected to the team, which is chosen by the Maine Soccer Coaches Association, and in 2011, Ian Cushing, Malcolm Steele and Sam Predham all were selected to the team.

Now, in 2014, Josiah Krul has been added to the list.

“It is quite an honor and couldn't go to a better young man,” said Krul’s head coach, Ryan Hurley. “He's worked extremely hard and I'm happy for him to see him recognized on that level. It is also nice to see him garner that recognition because he's a total player. A lot of times the players that play simple, smart, beautiful soccer don't get the recognition they deserve because lets face it, a lot of the glory goes to the goal scorers.

“Lucky for us he's capable of doing it all, being a great passer and also a finisher,” Hurley continued.” “It's nice to see other coaches recognize that as well. The distinction between Josiah and the many talented players above is that he made the state team as a sophomore, which is a major accomplishment. He's also incredibly humble and has really excelled at integrating himself into the team and program and we're excited to see him take the next leap and emerge as one of the leaders of our team next season as a Junior. We're very proud of him.”

Krul is the only player from the Midcoast, in both boys and girls soccer, to make the All-State team this season.
