BELFAST — Residents and visitors of Belfast who happened to be downtown Sunday morning were treated to the second annual Earth Day Parade, featuring puppets crafted by creative residents.

To aid in the creativity, With Breath Puppetry, a local community puppet studio, invited anyone interested to work on their puppets at their High Street studio.

Parents, children and other members of the community gathered to create a wide array of puppets, some attached to children and others towering high above them.

The parade began at Waterfall Arts and traveled through downtown Belfast to Steamboat Landing, where the Green Fair was set up in the Belfast Boathouse.

Some of the booths set up at the Green Fair included Friends of Sears Island, which focuses on protecting and maintaining the 601 acres placed in conservation easement. The group also hosts recreational and educational walks on island trails, among many other services.

The Head of Tide Preserve Permaculture Project's booth aimed to inform visitors about the potential for turning lawns into food-bearing gardens. Susan Cutting, who is a part of Belfast Transition, said that the project also helps to restore the soil used.

Belfast Transition is a community group that is both free and open to everyone, and gathers to discuss various issues affecting the area.
