WASHINGTON — David G. Blake Sr., 75, went to heaven suddenly on Oct. 8, 2015, at his home.

Born in Rockland on Dec. 25, 1939, he was the son of Douglas Sr. and Edna Kaler Blake. David was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard.

An extremely hard worker all his life, he was generous to a fault. David spent 30 years as a dedicated employee of Maine School Administrative District 5. Upon his retirement he was a wonderful caregiver to his wife.

He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, cutting wood and walking three miles every day, weather permitting. He loved talking to people along his walks and wherever the occasion arose. He enjoyed good health right to the end.

Predeceased by his brother, Douglas “Ozzie” Blake Jr.; his sister, Fern Chipman; and two brothers-in-law, Lee Hinds and William Warren; David is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Barbara (Savoy) of Washington; his son, David Jr. and his wife, Robin; a grandson, Tony; his sisters, Georgia Warren, Beverly Willey and her husband, David, Donna Hinds and Jane Blake; a brother, Stanley Blake; as well as a sister-in-law, Judy Daniello.

In keeping with David’s wishes, he will be laid to rest privately at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Augusta.

Arrangements are in the care of Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home.
