CAMDEN — Camden Opera House announces holiday entertainment for December 2023.

Following Oshima Brothers’ Thanksgiving weekend Homecoming concert, the holiday season comes to the Camden Opera House stage in full force. The downtown opera house, 29 Elm St., offers several heart-warming productions during December. Reserved seat tickets for all are available at camdenoperahouse.com. 

The local Atlantic Ballet presents “The Nutcracker” as part of Camden’s annual Christmas by the Sea celebration. This year’s production, featuring the beloved Tchaikovsky score and a talented guest dancer from New York, will be presented 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 2 and 3. 

The Musical Theatre students of Camden Ballet Theatre will perform “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Jr.” on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 8 and 9, at 6 p.m.; and Sunday, Dec. 10. at 2:30 p.m. This Music Theatre International children’s production is adapted from a story by Robert L. May and features the famous television special music and lyrics by Johnny Marks. 

On Wednesday, Dec. 13, Camden Opera House presents an evening with activist singer-songwriter Noel Paul Stookey, performing with bassist Michael Burd. This celebratory concert will include the unveiling of Stookey’s portrait by Robert Shetterly, as part of the acclaimed Americans Who Tell the Truth series of paintings. Just as Stookey's music does, AWTT hopes to inspire and motivate all to act with the courage to increase the quotient of justice, equality, peace and inclusive joy in the world. The show starts at 7:30 p.m. 

And Saturday, Dec. 16, at 7:30 p.m., Grammy Award winner Paul Sullivan on piano, along with a small ensemble, celebrates the heart and soul of Christmas with fresh new arrangements of favorite old carols and original compositions inspired by the season of giving. Sullivan’s Christmas in Maine show will benefit MCH Meals on Wheels and the Camden Area Christian Food Pantry.
