CAMDEN — Camden Garden Club invites the community to sponsor a downtown lamppost for the 2024 season. During the 2023 first-ever Lamppost Sponsorship, 38 businesses and 9 individuals supported this endeavor. The Club looks forward to working with generous supporters in the 2023-24 season and welcoming new sponsors for the coming year. Lampposts selected for sponsorship are on a first-come-first-served basis.

“By supporting our program, you are helping Camden Garden Club achieve a vision of making Camden the most beautiful town in Maine,” said the Garden Club, in a news release. “We have been decorating lampposts for 99 years, and your support means we can reallocate other funds to plant more flowers and landscape even more public spaces. We already maintain the Village Green, The Landing, and the Postage Stamp Garden. New civic projects – Bell Park, The Landing, the Mechanic Street Wall Garden, the Public Landing Watering System, and the Shade Park – are scheduled for development this year.”

Many individuals and businesses have already renewed their support for this community project. Go to: https://www.camdengardenclub.org/shop/sponsor-a-lamppost to directly purchase your lamppost.

Sponsors at the $250 level are recognized with a tag with their personal or business name printed on it. This sign hangs from the basket and the wreath, in addition to a listing in the program for our annual Garden Tour in July and a listing on a poster in the town office window and on all social media. Sponsorships of $1,000 and over will receive a full-page ad in our Tour program and other special recognition.

This year, for the first time, all Lamppost Wreaths were disassembled by Club members to save lights and decorations for next year, a considerable saving.

The Camden Garden Club has provided lamppost flower baskets for Camden since 1925 and decorated Christmas wreaths since 1948. These natural accents enhance the beauty of the town and have helped make Camden “The Jewel of the Maine Coast.” Travel + Leisure magazine cited Camden as one of the “20 Most Beautiful Small Towns in the United States” (Source: Travel + Leisure, January 29, 2023).
