CAMDEN — Bernard Bazel Garrigan, Sr., 82, died on Saturday, October 1, 2016 at his home in Camden after an extended illness.  Born in Waltham, Massachusetts,  July 31, 1934, he was the son of John R. and Maude (Barker) Garrigan and was a 1953 graduate of Waltham High School.

Bernie was proud to have served as a U.S. Marine during the Korean Conflict.

On June 7, 1958, he married Mary Joan Jenney in Waltham, Massachusetts.

Bernard attended Northeastern University and Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston. He was employed by Jarrell-Ashe and then Saunders Electronics in Waltham.  In 1965, he started his own building business, Custom Building and Remodeling.

Bernie grew up spending his summers in Camden and in 1980, was fortunate enough to move with Joan and their children from Sudbury, Massachusetts, to their home overlooking Megunticook Lake in Camden. Once in Camden, he worked for Lyman-Morse Boat Builders and then continued running his own business. During the 1980s, he volunteered for Camden First Aid Association.

An avid fisherman and hunter, Bernie enjoyed being outside and spent countless hours on and in the lake near his home. After retirement, he could often be found working around his home and in his well-kept gardens. Bernie always had a beloved dog at his side. He loved being surrounded by his family and brought his joking, teasing manner to every situation. One of the highlights of each day was for Bernie to see the many friendly faces around town.

Surviving is his wife of 58 years, M. Joan Garrigan; five children, Bernard B. (Christine) Garrigan, Jr., of Hope; Michael J. Garrigan of Alamo, California; David A. (Hilary) Garrigan of Concord, California; Joanne M. (Tory) Pound, of Camden; Maureen (Adam) Scott, of Hope; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.  Bernie was predeceased by a daughter-in-law, Kathleen Garrigan, in 2015.
