BELFAST — Several Belfast Lions Club members came out for their annual Memorial Bridge 9/11 Walk on Monday, Sept. 11, 2023. Additionally, a good number of Peer Leader LEOs and other Belfast Area High School students joined with the local Lions and other community members in this annual remembrance walk to honor those who died in the terrorist attack on America 22 years ago.

The remembrance walk was initiated over twenty years ago by Lion Ray Hall and led through the years by Lion Gary Philbrook. Other community organizations and individuals have joined the Lions and taken part in this annual event which involves stepping onto the bridge at 8:46 a.m. when the first plane hit the Twin Towers and continuing for three trips back and forth across the bridge.

"It was powerful to see high school students value the moment, want to be part of the event and recognize the importance of remembrance, even though most had not yet been born when the attack happened" said Lion President Chip Lagerbom, in a news release.
