Holy Week at John Street Methodist Church in Camden

Event has passed

Worshippers at the John Street United Methodist Church, 98 John Street, Camden, are prepared to honor Holy Week by simple actions based on Biblical readings.  For example, we may gather up old clothes to donate, representative of the cloaks spread before Jesus on his triumphant entrance into Jerusalem.  Or, we could have dinner with friends and remember the Last Supper.

The public is welcome to attend the church’s solemn Good Friday service at 7 pm April 18.  Focusing on the 7 last words of Christ from the Cross, individuals will give personal testimonies of personal experiences based on those words.  Over the past six Sundays, the six Lenten candles have been extinguished, one each week, as we neared Good Friday.  On Good Friday, the Christ candle will be extinguished, leaving only darkness.

Easter morning activities at the church will start with a pot-luck breakfast at 9 am.  All are welcome, with or without a dish to share, to celebrate the day with good food and good company.

Easter worship will follow at 10:30, a time of joy and praise.  The Easter message by Pastor Peg Moser will be, “Is It True?”   Also, the choir, under the direction of organist Dorothy Koski, will present a John Purifoy Cantata, with readings paired with the music.

The John Street church is fully handicap accessible and is open to all persons.
