Saturday, May 30 Erickson Fields Preserve will host a free public workshop to teach the art of “lasagna gardening”. The unique name refers to a low-maintenance, no-till, no-dig technique of layering a garden bed with organic mulch to create richer soil. Ellie Brown will lead the hands-on workshop from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm to build a lasagna garden at Erickson Fields Preserve located at 124 West Street in Rockport. The workshop is open for all levels of experience. Attendees will learn what materials to use and what to plant to make their own productive gardens.
The workshop will be held rain or shine. Participants should bring water, a snack, work gloves, closed toe shoes and work clothes. Space is limited. Register by calling 236-2739 or emailing jlucas@mcht.org. More information about this workshop and other programs at Erickson Fields Preserve and Aldermere Farm can be found online at www.aldermere.org.
