Viktor W. Mank, obituary
CAMDEN — Viktor William Mank, 22, of Camden, died on June 5, 2014, at Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport. He was born in Smolensk, Russia, on April 4, 1992, and came home to Rockport in March of 1996 and was the son of William and Chris Parsons Mank.
Viktor went to Camden Rockport schools then attended The Pine Ridge School in Vermont. He was a graduate of the Trident School in Charleston, S.C., where he stayed with his "other mother," Rhonda McKenna, her husband, Chris, and their two daughters, Fallon and Kelsey, also from Maine. Following high school, Viktor attended Mitchell College in New London, Conn., and then vocational school in Bath where he completed a medical technology course.
His grandmother, Reggie, who he called "Babshi," recently wanted him to take a class in Russian language so he would not forget his roots, but Viktor said his roots were here in America.
Viktor enjoyed being back in Maine learning a new trade, working and spending time with his friend and mentor, Kergan Thomann. He enjoyed fishing and cooking, which he learned from his father, William Mank. His godmother, Lauren Brampton, continued nurturing his cooking abilities. He loved camping at the family camp on South Pond in Warren and enjoyed his new home for the summer at the campground cooking on the grill, having camp fires and meeting his neighbors.
In death as in life, he was a giving person. At his young age he decided on his own to become an organ donor and because of this decision, many people will benefit. His big heart lives on.
Viktor loved his animals, including his cats, Holly and Clyde, his dogs, Rhea and Bella, and any dog he met. He was a spirited, curious young man with a big soul. His last Facebook entry said, "Having a peaceful night by the campfire." May your Peace live on Viktor – we miss you.
He was predeceased by his father, William Mank, who died in 2012; his paternal grandparents; and his maternal grandfather, Leo Parsons. Surviving is his mother, Chris Parsons-Mank of Camden; his sister, Leanna Parisi and her husband, Dan, of Bethany, Conn.; his grandmother, Regina Parsons of York Harbor; his aunt and uncles, Marie Stuppy, John Parsons and Walter Mank; his cousins, Mikayla and Judd Parsons, Natasha Mank and Alex Carey; and a wonderful circle of family, Kimball, Hal, Erin, Polly, and many other aunts, uncles, and cousins. Thank you all for being part of Viktor's life.
All are welcome to attend a Celebration of his Life on Sunday, July 27 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the family home, 560 York Street, Route 1A and Woodbridge Road in York Harbor.
