Jonathan Fulford withdraws from race for Maine’s Second Congressional District
Citing detrimental campaign pressures, Jonathan Fulford, D-Monroe, has officially withdrawn from the Congressional race in Maine’s Second District.
In his May 1 announcement, he said: “The pressures of the campaign on my family and myself have been substantial, and I am therefore withdrawing from the campaign. I want to express my deep appreciation to everyone who has supported the campaign, in so many ways. I will always be grateful to you. Running for office has never been about personal ambition, but rather a belief I still hold, that we can build a better future, together. Thank you very much, Jonathan Fulford”
That leaves Jared Golden, D-Lewiston, Craig Olson, D-Islesboro, Bruce Poliquin, R-Oakland, and Lucas St. Clair, D-Hampden, left to compete for the seat that represents northern and western Maine, and almost 80 percent of Maine’s land area.
