Man accused of driving more than 100 miles per hour
WARREN — A New Jersey man who was arrested July 3 by the Knox County Sheriff’s Office for allegedly driving 106 miles per hour has been released on bail.
According to a news release by Chief Deputy Tim Carroll, Deputy Nathaniel Jack was on patrol on Route 1 in Warren July 3 at 9:45 a.m. The deputy was patrolling southbound on Route 1 when he observed a 2017 Mini Cooper traveling at a high rate of speed heading northbound near Finntown Road.
Jack was able to lock in a speed of 106 miles per hour on the car, said Carroll. After Jack turned around to pursue the vehicle, it had slowed down due to traffic and he was able to catch up to it, police said.
James Fischer , 64, of Princeton, N.J., was arrested and charged with Criminal Speed, a Class E Misdemeanor, which is speeding 30 miles per hour over the posted speed limit.
Fischer was driving 51 miles per hour over the posted speed limit of 55, according to Carroll.
Fischer was transported to the Knox County Jail in Rockland and was later released on bail. He will appear in Knox County Unified Court on August 21.
Fischer told Jack that he was going to Lowe's in Thomaston and that he thought he was going 120 miles per hour, said Carroll.
