Rockland City Councilor Will Clayton seeks mayoral position
ROCKLAND - Rockland City Councilor William Clayton made known in an email Wednesday that he has an interest in the mayoral position for the upcoming year. Clayton last served as Rockland's Mayor in 2012 unseating then two time mayor Brian Harden to become Rockland's youngest mayor.
Harden lost a bid for the Rockland City Council this last election running against Steve Carroll, Ed Glaser and Larry Pritchett. The two available seats went to Glaser and Pritchett.
Rockland's current mayor Louise MacLellen-Ruf did not seek reelection for her seat on the council. On Monday, November 21, new councilors will be sworn in and a new mayor elected in Rockland's Annual Organizational meeting that will take place in City Hall beginning at 7:30 p.m.
In his email, sent to current councilors and elect, Clayton expressed his interest for the mayoral position for next year.
"I wish to help guide with assistance from you, the city staff, residents and council to continue the betterment of Rockland," he said. "I am looking for your support and if there any hesitancies I am happy to discuss them with you."
The short, but to the point email ended with, "After the last year of national bitterness we have the chance to be the example of how civic engagement can be civil and productive."
