Rockport Select Board honors Tracy Murphy for years of service
ROCKPORT — Tracy Murphy put down her knitting, and laughed Monday evening, at a regularly scheduled Select Board meeting. She had been sitting in the back of the room, listening to the pro forma proceedings at the front of the room where the board members talked about upcoming meetings and other municipal housekeeping details. All of a sudden, the attention turned to her, and Chairman Bill Chapman asked her to step forward.
“We wanted to thank you for your dedication,” he said.
The Select Board honored Murphy for her constant and substantial service to the town. Murphy has been a select board member, and has sat on the Charter Committee, Planning Board, Budget Committee, ad hoc Library Planning Committee, and other committees and subcommittees.
The Select Board presented her with a signed and framed print of a Peter Ralston original photo, the Light, “for all of the years of service,” said Chapman. “We thought this symbolized all of the light that you have brought to the town.”
“I’m not dead, yet,” Murphy laughed.
The room then gave her a standing ovation.
