Northport meth lab is state’s 19th this year
NORTHPORT — Maine Drug Enforcement agents arrested a husband and wife in Northport Wednesday, after learning that they had recently relocated there from Bath and we allegedly “again” manufacturing methamphetamine.
James Scheider, 39, and Stacey (Dykes) Scheider were charged with aggravated trafficking in methamphetamine, class A, aggravated operation of a methamphetamine laboratory, class A, and a probation violation.
Drug agents from the MDEA Mid-Coast District Track Force arrested the Scheiders on the afternoon of March 30 at their apartment on Atlantic Highway (Route 1) in Northport, close to the Belfast line. Seized from the residence, according to a news release, was a “one pot” laboratory and items allegedly used to manufacture methamphetamine.
Police also said that due to the “extremely dangerous nature of methamphetamine manufacturing,” members of the MDEA Laboratory Enforcement Team were utilized to seize evidence from the residence. The State Department of Environmental Protection also assisted at the scene, taking the waste products from the residence for safe disposal.
The Scheiders were already on probation stemming from a conviction and sentence they received for trafficking methamphetamine in October 2014. James Scheider had been sentenced to five years in prison, with all but 18 months suspended and three years of probation. Stacey Scheider had been sentenced to three years in prison, all but nine months suspended and three years of probation. There were convicted and sentenced for their roles in making methamphetamine at their previous residence at 50 Elm St. in Bath.
Last month, agents and the Belfast Police had received information that the Scheiders had moved to Northport and were again manufacturing methamphetamine. They were arrested after agents and state probation and parole officers conducted a probation check on them and the items were discovered. They were transported to Waldo County Jail, where they remain held on the probation violations.
According to the state Department of Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland, this is the 19th methamphetamine laboratory response in Maine this year.
