Robert V. Gorman, obituary
WALDOBORO — Robert V. Gorman, 92, died March 6, 2016, at the Sussman House in Rockport. He was born Aug. 20, 1923, in Buffalo, N.Y., to Michael and Mary Corrigan Gorman. Bob grew up in Buffalo and attended local Catholic schools. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. After the war Bob graduated from Canisius College in Buffalo.
Bob married Ellen Gorman in 1960 and they had two children, Paul and Mary Ellen (Meg.) Bob graduated from SUNY in Buffalo with a master’s degree in social work. He worked for many years for Erie County in New York and finished his career as director of youth services for Erie County. He also long served the United Way Steering Committee in Buffalo.
Bob was always very active in the Catholic Parishes where he and his family lived. Notable was his work on the St. Patrick's Catholic Church Building Committee. He was also very active in the Waldoboro community serving on the Good Shepherd Food Pantry, West Waldoboro Community Club as president, Lions Club, Salvation Army and the Garden Club. Bob was particularly known for his passion for gardening. Bob's family is enormously grateful for all of the wonderful friends and neighbors who helped Bob remain in his home through his health challenges.
Bob was predeceased by his wife, Ellen Gorman, who died in 1998; his sister, Rita Gorman; and by a brother, Edward Gorman.
He is survived by a son, Dr. Paul Gorman and his wife, Katharine Weber, of Birmingham, Ala.; his daughter, Meg Marini and her husband, Gary, of Franklin, Mass.; his sister, Mary Ann Yetter of Hamburg, N.Y.; his brother, Gerald Gorman of Lackawanna, N.Y.; his grandchildren, Camryn and Kelsey Marini of Philadelphia, Pa., and Claire and Ellen Gorman of Birmingham, Ala.
The funeral mass will be held March 10 at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Newcastle, followed by a reception at the church. The Rev. Fred Morse will lead the mass. Burial will follow in St. Patrick's Church Cemetery.
