Marchia (Bickford) Firth, obituary
ROCKLAND — Marchia Jean (Bickford) Firth, 85, of Rockland, passed away peacefully at home on June 3 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Winter Harbor, Maine on April 7, 1940, Marchia was the daughter of the late Chester and Ernestine (Wood) Bickford. She attended local schools and graduated from Rockland in 1958.
She married Floyd Firth, Sr. on August 23, 1958. He was her loving husband until his passing in March 2000. Marchia and Floyd, Sr. lived in Rockland until 1982, until the couple moved to South Thomaston.
In earlier years she worked for F.J. Ohara’s & Son, National Sea Products and 18 years at Port Clyde Canning Factory.
She attended the Thomaston Assembly of God church in Thomaston, Maine. She was a member of the South Thomaston Historical Society, FinnAm Society, and Heritage House Union Senior Citizens.
Marchia enjoyed crocheting, boat rides up to Alford Lake, going to lawn sales, playing card games and going out to eat with family and friends. She enjoyed the travelling experiences she has had over the years, especially in New Hampshire, Florida, the World Fair in Montreal and family trips to Winter Harbor.
Marchia enjoyed spending time with her cousins and longtime friends, Craig Widdecombe, Lillian Widdecombe, Dot Jackson, Elaine Sprague, Barbara Simpson, and her devoted caregiver and friend Pattie Marsha.
Marchia is predeceased by her parents; her husband, Floyd Firth, Sr.; son Floyd Firth Jr.; sister Hazel Eaton and companion Fred Philips.
She is survived by her son Wayne Firth and wife Valerie Firth of Jefferson; daughter Anita Payson and husband Michael of Rockport; grandchildren Craig, James, Stephen, Jeffrey, Jacob, Jessica, and Julia; great-grandchild, Aurora; brother, Edward Bickford of West Virginia, and many nieces and nephews.
She will be dearly missed by her family and friends and all that knew her. Though she may be gone, her memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved her.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, June 16, 2025, at 11 a.m., Ocean View Cemetery, South Thomaston.
