Prospect man charged with three counts of gross sexual assault
PROSPECT — A Prospect man has been charged with three counts of gross sexual assault of a minor following investigation into a report of abuse. A Child Advocacy Center interview had reportedly taken place Nov. 25 with the victim, prior to the case being referred to the Waldo County Sheriff's Office from Searsport Police Dept. in early February.
The CAC holds interviews designed to provide the child an opportunity to talk about the reason for their visit to the CAC. The Forensic Interviewer strives to make the child feel as comfortable as possible while gathering information to determine what may have occurred.
Scott A. Clark, 37, of Prospect, was indicted by a superceding grand jury for two counts of gross sexual assault stemming from incidents in 2019. At this time the victim had yet to reach age 12.
Clark was arrested for an additional charge of gross sexual assault March 17, this one for an incident that reportedly occurred Nov. 1, 2020.
The victim reportedly told police that they had been sexually abused by the perpetrator starting at six years old and continuing through age 12. This abuse included rape, according to an affidavit submitted by Waldo County Sheriff’s Detective Merl Reed.
Clark was released on $2,500 cash bail and will be on supervised release pending trial. As part of his release, Clark agreed to having no contact with his victim. Clark is also barred from having contact with anyone under age 18, and will remain on house arrest except for employment, legal or medical appointments.
Clark is being represented by Attorney Jeremy Pratt, who was appointed March 7. He is expected to appear in court at the Waldo County Judicial Center April 15. The appearance will appear over Zoom, according to court documents.
