Police find two Belfast Reentry Center inmates sitting in New Hampshire stream
OSSIPPE, N.H., — The two inmates participating in the reentry program of the Maine Coastal Regional Reentry Center in Belfast, and who walked away from the facility Sept. 29, have been arrested by New Hampshire police.
Dakota Raven, 24, of Knox, and Cameron Dana, 24, of Owls Head, were both assigned to facility maintenance duties which include removal of rubbish from the facility. While performing those duties both individuals broke custody by walking away from the facility, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.
On Sunday, October 4, Officers from the Ossipee Police Department in New Hampshire received a report of a suspicious vehicle parked in the area of a boat launch at a local campground, according to the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office.
When officers arrived, they located a 2002 Ford Ranger bearing Maine registration plates. The officer researched the vehicle information and learned the truck had been reported stolen from Searsport October 2.
Officers had seen two males walking in the immediate area and when they attempted to locate them they observed they were no longer on the roadway.
A K9 unit was called to the scene and after a short track Dana and Raven were found sitting in a stream, the S.O. said.
Both subjects were arrested on the outstanding Escape, Class C, warrants issued by the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office and transported to the Carroll County Correctional Center. Both suspects were charged with New Hampshire offenses of receiving stolen property, a class A felony, and resisting arrest, a class B misdemeanor. Both Dana and Raven are scheduled to be arraigned in Ossipee court on Monday, October 5, 2020.
Both had been sentenced and classified as Minimum Security in Maine.
Dakota Raven was sentenced on traffic offenses including eluding an officer, criminal speed and operating without a license. Cameron Dana was sentenced on the charge of escape, which was the result of his violation of a home release program.
