Three transported to hospital following Route 17 Rockport crash










ROCKPORT — Icy, slippery road conditions are blamed for crash that involved three vehicles this afternoon, Dec. 17, on Route 17 in Rockport.
The crash occurred halfway between Grassy Pond and Mirror Lake, as a westbound vehicle with one driver and passenger, crossed the centerline and collided with an eastbound vehicle.
A third car apparently had minor involvement with the crash, as well.
The two, male and female, in the westbound vehicle were extricated from their car by Rockport Firefighters.
Camden-Rockport Police Chief Rand Gagne said the occupants were talking and appeared to suffer from lacerations.
They, along with the female driver of the eastbound car, were transported to Pen Bay Medical Center via North East Mobile Health Services ambulances.
The crash remains under investigation by Rockport police, Gagne said.
The highway is again open to traffic.

Drivers eastbound on Route 17 are being rerouted onto other roads the near the Pushaw Trading Post in South Hope while the highway is closed for a section in Hope and Rockport due to a vehicular crash near Mirror Lake and Grassy Pond.
Westbound drivers are being rerouted up Mt. Pleasant Road in Rockport.
Rockport firefighters are at the scene helping to extricate victims, and Hope firefighters are helping with traffic control at the west end of the road closure.
Drivers are advised to find alternate routes for the time being.
