Rockport Conservation Commission seeks new members
The RCC is a voluntary commission whose members are appointed by the Town of Rockport Select Board to promote the protection, conservation, and enhancement of the natural resources of Rockport.
The RCC is responsible for conducting research, educating the public and making recommendations to appropriate town bodies. The Commission works with other conservation organizations throughout the region such as land trusts and citizen monitoring groups to sustain the natural ecosystems for current and future generations, according to a news release.
The harbor, rivers, lakes, wetlands, forests, and conserved lands are a major draw to the community. RCC members are passionate about Rockport’s environment and natural resources and work to protect and raise awareness about them by engaging local community members.
Membership responsibilities include:
- Participation in one or two one-hour meetings a month (three excused absences/year);
- Volunteering at RCC led outreach and education events;
- Conducting research and grant development outside of meeting times;
- Contributing to the Rockport Town report and other written communications; and
- Responding to committee email correspondence.
The committee meets at the Rockport Town Office. For more information on the RCC mission and goals, see RCC’s strategic plan.
Committee assignments are filled on a rolling basis. Membership is for two years and is renewable.
