Winterport student charged following in-school assault
WINTERPORT — A Samuel Wagner Middle School student has been charged in connection with an assault that took place at the school at roughly 8 a.m on Friday, Dec. 9.
Waldo County Dispatch received a report that an assault had occurred involving a knife, but that no one required medical attention, according to a media report.
The complainant also advised law enforcement that the weapon was no longer in the student’s possession, and the two parties had been separated.
Waldo County Sheriff’s Sgt. James Greeley, Deputy Darrin Moody and Lt. Matthew Curtis responded to the school. Once on scene they determined the knife in question was made of plastic, which had reportedly been “modified,” according to a press release.
Further investigation revealed the juvenile victim received a “superficial scratch” to the neck during the altercation that did not require medical attention.
As a result of the investigation, the juvenile suspect was charged in connection with the assault.
The Waldo County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to work with school staff to ensure the incident is fully investigated.
