Winterport crash claims life of Bangor man
On June 6, a single vehicle crash at approximately 9 p.m. was reported to the Waldo County Regional Dispatch Center. The crash was reported to be on the Baker Road in Winterport.
According to Corporal Darrin Moody, a blue 2002 Mercury failed to navigate a sweeping corner to the left. The vehicle ran off the road over an embankment next to a stream, sideswiped a utility pole and then went airborne before striking a large tree.
The vehicle was driven by a 21-year-old Bangor, man who had to be extricated from the vehicle with the Jaws of Life. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Speed and alcohol were determined to be factors in the crash.
Sergeant Cody Laite, of the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office, will be reconstructing the crash.
There were no passengers and no other vehicles were involved in the crash. The identity of the driver will be released once the Sheriff’s Office confirms the next of kin has been notified.
